CD70 — Accelerator Pipe (Accelerator / Throttle Grip Sleeve)

The CD70 Accelerator Pipe (also called the throttle sleeve, grip tube, or accelerator pipe) is a small but essential component of the throttle assembly used on Honda CD70 and compatible 70cc models. It is the inner plastic sleeve that fits inside the throttle grip and over the throttle tube. When the rider twists the throttle grip, this pipe/sheath allows smooth rotation between the grip and the throttle tube and prevents metal-to-metal contact that would otherwise cause wear, noise, and sticky throttle action. Typical accelerator pipes are moulded from durable nylon or polyethylene blends that provide wear resistance, dimensional stability and good friction characteristics across seasonal temperature ranges.

A correct-fitting accelerator pipe ensures consistent throttle response and a comfortable feel in the rider’s hand. Over time the pipe can become brittle, cracked or worn — especially on heavily used motorcycles or when aftermarket grips have been fitted. Replacing the accelerator pipe is an inexpensive maintenance step that restores smooth throttle operation, helps avoid binding or jerky response, and protects clutch/throttle cables from abrasion. Technicians value accelerator pipes because they are simple to fit (slide into the grip and onto the throttle tube), inexpensive, and significantly improve perceived quality of the throttle action. Genuine and higher-quality aftermarket pipes can reduce vibration transfer, resist fuel or oil contamination, and last longer than cheap soft plastics.

For shops and resellers, offering the CD70 accelerator pipe as a spare part makes sense: it’s a high-turnover, low-value SKU with broad demand from owners of commuter 70cc motorcycles. Stock the common OEM-fit versions as well as universal “pouch-pack” replacements for fast customer turn-around. Provide both OEM-like black sleeves and transparent/white economy options to match customer budgets and model years.
